The mongoose method
Something doesn't smell right?
We look for unsupported implications, missing context, and headlines that promise more than the evidence delivers. Sometimes the conclusion is simple: there isn't enough evidence to say.
Compare the framing
Narrative Watch
The same event can be described in very different ways. We separate verified facts from editorial emphasis and inference.
Example framing A — fictional
“New policy sparks widespread alarm.”
Watch for: emotionally loaded language and unclear evidence about the scale of public reaction.
Example framing B — fictional
“Officials announce routine policy adjustment.”
Watch for: minimizing language that may omit meaningful consequences.
What can actually be concluded?
Framing isn't the same as falsehood.
Both example headlines could be misleading, fair, or accurate depending on the primary evidence. Mongoose News will show that evidence before assigning an assessment.
Evidence before certainty
The Sniff Test
Our proposed method for deciding whether a claim holds up—and whether the story deserves attention.
01 / Source
Where did it come from?
Find the original documents, transcripts, data, and attributable reporting.
02 / Context
What's missing?
Check the time frame, denominator, counterevidence, and material omissions.
03 / Significance
Does it matter?
Distinguish substantive developments from attention-grabbing but weak narratives.
Planned feature: Claim-by-claim verification with evidence links and uncertainty labels. The public checker is not active yet.
Our editorial foundation
Truth. Context. Significance.
Our job is to inform your opinion, not form it for you.
What we aim to do
Show primary sources, separate fact from interpretation, compare framing fairly, identify uncertainty, and correct errors transparently.
What we won't do
Invent quotes, treat AI output as proof, infer motives without evidence, or automatically publish consequential unverified accusations.
Launch safeguard
Automated publication will be limited to low-risk items that pass source and consistency checks. Disputed, sensitive, or potentially defamatory claims must be held for human review.
